The Indiana Pacers are closing out their final West Coast trip of the season with their first meeting against the Los Angeles Lakers. After having two days off, and allowing Paul George to venture over to Jimmy Kimmel Live, the Pacers should be well rested and ready to head home on a high note.

No Kobe Bryant means the Lakers are going to struggle, like they’ve done all season without him. Not having him to will the team to victory has shown through brightly. Nick Young has tried to pick up the slack by scoring 17.0 points per game, but it hasn’t been enough. Even with Pau Gasol averaging 16.8 points and 10.1 rebounds, the team has been unable to get on any kind of roll this season. In the month of January, the Lakers have won a total of three games out of 13.

George will be playing in front of his hometown for the first time since being announced as an Eastern Conference All-Star starter. Expect him to put on a special performance for all his family and friends who will be in the crowd. The other Pacer to watch will be Lance Stephenson who has stepped it up on this West Coast trip. He’s scored 20-plus in the last two games and was a combined seven assists from getting two more triple-doubles. Stephenson loves the big city lights, so it would surprise no one to see him go off for a triple-double tonight.

  • Mathew Muncy

Can’t imagine the Pacers leaving the Staples Center with a loss tonight. Prediction: Paul George scores 30 and Lance gets a triple-double.

  • Evan Reller

Lakers are the walking wounded right now. Not sure they have the firepower to beat the Pacers, but I said the same thing about the Kings.

    • Mathew Muncy

I think the Kings had a better core than what the Lakers do. That and Thornton turned back the clock.

  • Mathew Muncy

Pacers giving up 109.5 ppg on this West Coast trip. Definitely need to bring the D tonight.

  • Brock Stafford

Prediction: The Lakers are not going to be terribly good.

    • Mathew Muncy

Only won 3 games this month, so you’re probably right.

      • Brock Stafford

Unlike the now hot Nets. 10-2 this month.

        • Mathew Muncy

Getting scary good. Hope they don’t become a buzz saw the rest of the season.

          • Brock Stafford

Both the Raptors and Nets are playing very well right now. Would be nice to see SOME competition in the East.

          • Mathew Muncy

With the way the Pacers are playing this year, I don’t think it will really matter.

  • Evan Reller

Two days rest is huge for the Pacers. Gives them an extra practice to focus on the little things and recover from Denver. These road trips are brutal.

  • Mathew Muncy

Stephenson vs Young is going to be an interesting matchup

  • Mathew Muncy

Welp guess I should have done better research. Young is suspended tonight.

  • Mathew Muncy

David West will manhandle Ryan Kelly all night. Found a weakness. ATTACK!

  • Mathew Muncy

Roy Hibbert is having an awful night

  • Mathew Muncy

This is more Pacers pace right now. Great start, but not going crazy with shooting on either end.

  • Mathew Muncy

    Wow giant airball by Granger

  • Mathew Muncy

3 point lead at the end of the first. Not great, but I’ll wait till the end of the third quarter to pass judgement.

    • Evan Reller

Getting everyone’s best shot now. Its like Sacramento, bench players who won’t get pulled so they have nothing to lose, also, Pau Gasol.

      • Mathew Muncy

Teams with nothing to lose tend to be the scariest

  • Mathew Muncy

Paul George had 2 points and 5 assists at the end of the first. Maybe I was wrong about 30 points. Maybe it will be 30 assists.

  • Mathew Muncy

Pacers bench let the Lakers back in it

  • Mathew Muncy

This faster pace game doesn’t suit the Pacers well.

  • Mathew Muncy

Stephenson has 5 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists. Smelling that LA triple-double.

    • Brock Stafford

He’s always within reach of a triple-double, but rebounds aren’t the issue. Points and assists are harder to come by.

  • Mathew Muncy

PG with a couple point blank steals tonight.

  • Evan Reller

Free throws are free for a reason guys…

    • Mathew Muncy

It’s like someone entered a Hack-a-Shaq cheat code for the entire team, all season

  • Mathew Muncy

0 blocks for the Pacers in the half. 5 steals are a nice consolation.

  • Mathew Muncy

Pacers need to have a typical big 3rd quarter and pull away from the Lakers. Time for PG to step it up.

  • Mathew Muncy

    It’s an UNGUARDED shot! *sigh*
