Cover Up or Progress?

Andrew Luck covers up an awful lot of the team’s flaws. If that sounds familiar, its because Peyton Manning did the same thing for the better part of a decade.

Luck’s late game heroics have kept this team competitive for the past two seasons and led them to the playoffs. He has a knack for big plays and overcoming the pitfalls of the offense (like a porous offensive line).

The Colts have spent a fair amount of money on mediocre defensive players in the past couple offseasons. Is this the year those players live up to their overblown contracts? Can the defense catch up to the offense?

Luck has a plethora of weapons this season (at least five reliable targets), but can the defense stop anyone? They gave up 88 points in two playoff games, and won one simply because Luck and T.Y. Hilton wouldn’t stop picking apart the Chiefs.

Having a great QB really covers up a lot of holes on a roster and is the most important part of a successful franchise. How many teams in the NFL are just a QB away from contention? How many have spent years struggling to find their franchise guy (See: the rest of the AFC South)?

Luck can carry this team into the playoffs, and maybe to the AFC Championship. The defense will have to step up if the Colts have their sights set on the Lombardi Trophy.
