2014 Indianapolis Colts Regular Season Predictions

With the Colts officially reporting to training camp, I figured we should take a shot at predicting how the regular season may play out for our Indianapolis Colts.

Coming off an 11-5 season and a thrilling Wild Card Playoff victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, the Colts have used this offseason to improve depth and get healthy. One of the preseason favorites in the AFC, let’s take a look at how I see the 2014 Regular Season playing out for Indy.

Week 1 at Broncos- Another showdown between the past & the future when Luck & the Colts travel to Denver to meet Peyton & the Broncos. Luck ruined Peyton’s homecoming to Indy last year, but I think the four game suspension of defensive standout Robert Mathis will hurt the Colts in this one. Peyton get “Peyback”in Week 1 shootout. Loss

Week 2 vs Eagles- Expect another shootout Week 2 when Chip Kelly brings his high powered offense led by Shady McCoy and Nick Foles. Colts will miss the pass rush of Mathis again, but I expect the Lucas Oil crowd to be the difference maker in this home opener on Monday Night Football. Win

Week 3 at Jaguars- The Jags are a young team in a rebuilding stage. They’ll put up a fight at home, but I expect the Colts to take care of business in this one. Win

Week 4 vs. Titans- The Chris Johnson era is over in Tennesee, without CJ2K or standout a quarterback, I can’t see the Titans hanging around in this one unless the Colts have a major letdown. Win

Week 5 vs. Ravens- I expect the Ravens to have a bounce back year..even with the Ray Rice drama. Steve Smith will give Flacco another weapon, and the Ravens young defense should be better. However the Colts defense should be better as well with the return of Robert Mathis. New Colts top the old Colts, leaving the city of Baltimore upset once again. Win

Week 6 at Texans- This feels like a trap game for the horseshoes. A short week Thursday Night game against divisional rival Houston. A healthy Texans squad will give the Colts all they can handle at home. They still have Arian Foster, JJ Watt, Andre Johnson, and you can toss in a healthy Brian Cushing and 1st overall pick Jadeveon Clowney. Ryan Fitzpatrick won’t make the mistakes Matt Schaub and Case Keenum made last year. Texans win a close one. Loss

Week 7 vs. Bengals- The Bengals took down the Colts in Cincy last year, with solid play from Andy Dalton and a friendly goalline call by the NFL officiating crew. Bengals defense keeps them in this one, but Colts prevail. Win

Week 8 at Steelers- I think Big Ben and the Steelers have a bounce back year. They should have nice running attack with Le’Veon Bell and Lagarrette Blount, their young defense should be better, and they’re expecting Markus Wheaton to take the next step opposite Antonio Brown. Colts fall to the black & yellow. Loss

Week 9 at Giants- Another road game for the Colts, this time against the younger Manning brother. Colts take down Eli and the Giants in the return of Hakeem Nicks and Ahmad Bradshaw to MetLife Stadium on Monday Night. Win

Week 10 Bye

More from Indianapolis Colts

Week 11 vs. Patriots- Colts come off a bye week against a team they’re oh too familiar with…Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. Bill Belichick and the Patriots ended the Colts season yet again in the divisional round last year up in Foxborough, this time the Colts are at home in the primetime of Sunday Night Football. That should make the difference along with health coming out of the bye week. Win

Week 12 vs. Jaguars- Expect a slow start from the Colts coming off the big Patriots win. Colts will still be too much for the Jags at home, and a big second half should get the job done. Win

Week 13 vs. Redskins- Regular season showdown between the first and second picks in 2012 NFL draft. Expect comparisons galore leading up to this matchup, but there’s no comparison for me. Luck is the better quarterback and the Colts are the better team. Win

Week 14 at Browns- Johnny Football mania in Cleveland. Unclear whether the Browns will give Manziel or Brian Hoyer the football when the Colts meet the Browns in Week 14. What is clear is that without Josh Gordon, neither will have many options in the passing game. This feels like a Trent Richardson thanks for trading me game. Win

Week 15 vs. Texans- Texans don’t seem to play well in Indy. I expect that trend to continue with Indy evening up the head to head matchup with the Texans at home. Win

Week 16 at Cowboys- Colts travel to Jerry’s World to face Romo and the Cowboys. The Cowboys seem to be overrated or underachievers (depending on how you view them) every year. They also tend to be in a win or go home divisional game every year in Week 17. They upset the Colts to get hopes up in Big D yet again. Loss

Week 17 at Titans- Colts will likely still be playing for a 1st round bye or home-field advantage at this point of the season. That’s unfortunate for the Titans. Win

Colts Regular Season Record: 12-4

I’ll start working on playoff predictions for the entire NFL in upcoming weeks.
