The Indianapolis Colts have had some injury issues over the past couple of seasons at the wide receiver position, and they have plenty of talent on the roster this offseason. One of those talented players is rookie receiver Tony Washington, who was a star at Appalachian State University. He has quite a bit of promise in the NFL, and is working to get a chance with the Colts.

Washington agreed to do an exclusive interview with InkOnIndy.com’s Evan Massey, and we hope that you enjoy the read.

Q. Thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions Tony, how are you doing?

A. Doing well. Enjoying camp so far.

Q. How has your time with the Colts been so far?

A. Great. The vets are very receptive of the rookies thus far and have done a great job helping us to feel at home.

Q. What would you say has been the best experience of being a Colt so far?

A. Probably having the opportunity to go behind the scenes at the zoo and get up close to the animals.

Q. Have you become close with any other players on the team?

A. Yes. I’ve gotten close to all of the rookie receivers and a few other rookies.

Q. How would you describe your game to a fan who hasn’t seen much of you?

A. I would say I am an explosive player who plays bigger than his measurables.

Q. How do you feel about your chances to make this Indianapolis Colts roster?

A. I feel I have a fair chance to make the team. I’ve come into a situation where because of injuries a lot of guys had the opportunity to show their skills. The guys from last year can really play and know the playbook inside and out. I feel that special teams and being able to contribute in the return game will be the deciding factor in making the team or not.

Q. How long have you been playing football? When did you realize that you had this much talent?

A. I’ve been playing since flag so pretty much all my life. I was a big basketball guy growing up so I didn’t really take it too serious until my senior year when I realized this was an opportunity to get school payed for and continue chasing the dream of pro sports.

Q. Have you had the chance to talk with Reggie Wayne? What are your thoughts on learning from one of the best to play the game?

A. He has given me advice a few times but I haven’t just sat down and talked with him. As far as learning it’s been great, I love to watch him. He has been in the league almost as long as I have been playing tackle football so his pool of knowledge is great. I just soak up every word and watch him closely in practice and try to take bits and pieces to add to my game.

Q. Where do you see yourself in five years?

A. I see myself either continuing to play football or going back to get my masters in Architecture.

Q. Anything that you’d like to say to Colts fans in closing?

A. Indianapolis has been a great experience so far and I hope to one day contribute on a team to bring home a Super Bowl to Indy.

We hope that you enjoyed this interview, and we appreciate the time that Tony gave us. He is a very talented football player with a chance to make the team, and he will be a very intriguing player to keep an eye on as training camp moves forward. Make sure to share this interview around to your friends and fellow fans.
