Week 3 NFL Picks: Will the Indianapolis Colts start 0-3?

facebooktwitterreddit

Just like the Colts, I had an ugly week last week going 8-8. Some picks were due to bad hunches, while others were due to a series of unfortunate events.

These events unfortunately concluded with the Colts coughing up the football and a second half lead to the Philadelphia Eagles. Darren Sproles torched the Colts yet again, as he has done in the past for the Chargers and the Saints.

Trent Richardson had his best game as a Colt, but that game will be remembered more for the fumbles than for the 95 yards of total offense and close to 4 yards per carry. Offensive Coordinator Pep Hamilton and the Colts had 38 rushes, compared to 34 passing attempts…with Andrew Luck as quarterback. In comparsion the Eagles, whom have arguably the best running back in the league in LeSean McCoy, rushed the ball 28 times to 37 pass attempts for Nick Foles.

Sprinkle in a couple missed calls in favor of the Eagles late and you have a 30-27 Philly win.

Now on to my Week 3 picks:

Buccaneers at Falcons: I’m undefeated so far on Thursday Night and I’m expecting Matty Ice and the Dirty Birds to keep it that way. Tampa Bay will put up a fight, but fall to 0-3…Mike Glennon anyone? Pick: Falcons

Chargers at Bills: Rivers and the Super Chargers travel to Buffalo to face the 2-0 Bills…yes the 2-0 Buffalo Bills. The Chargers are coming off a big home win over the Seahawks, but now travel East for a 1pm kickoff. No jet lag in this one. Pick: Chargers

Cowboys at Rams: Romo and the Cowboys bounced back on the road against Tennesee. They get another favorable matchup on the road against the Rams. Cowboys should win this game rather easily, but they’re the Cowboys. Pick: Rams

Texans at Giants: The Texans have had a pretty favorable schedule early against a timid RGIII-led Redskins team, and a rookie quarterback-led Raiders team. They get another winnable game when they travel to MetLife stadium to take on the Giants. Texans should win this game, but rumor has it Peyton and Archie will disown Eli if he starts 0-3. Pick: Giants

Vikings at Saints: No AP. Brees at home. Pick: Saints

Titans at Bengals: The Bengals are rolling right now, after wins over the Ravens and Falcons to start the season. Cincy may be without AJ Green, but they still have one of the best defenses in the league..oh and Giovani Bernard isn’t too shabby either. Pick: Bengals

Ravens at Browns: Since the 2nd half of the Steelers game, the Browns have been a different team. The Manziel talk has died down other than the occasional snap appearance, and they did just beat Drew Brees and the Saints….without Josh Gordon AND Jordan Cameron. The Ravens looked better last week, but I still don’t trust that offense. Pick: Browns

Packers at Lions: Packers found themselves in a hole to Geno Smith and the Jets, before Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense came to life. Throw in the Jets timeout fiasco and the Pack escape with a win. The Lions faced a real defense in Carolina and only put up 7 points. I expect the teams to split the season series, with the home team winning each time. Pick: Lions

Colts at Jaguars: This should be the remedy for the Colts. The Jags won’t be pushovers after the big loss to the Redskins on the road, but I expect Luck and the Colts to prevail. Pick: Colts

Raiders at Patriots: If Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning can’t win in Foxborough, Derek Carr is not winning in Foxborough. Pick: Patriots

49ers at Cardinals: The 49ers blew the game Sunday night against the Bears. It’s really interesting how the primetime games play out when it comes to the “favorites”. This is actually a big game in the NFC West for it only being Week 3. Cardinals are looking for 3-0, but the Niners will be the more desperate team, trying to avoid going 1-2. Pick: 49ers

Broncos at Seahawks: Rematch of last year’s Super Bowl, which the Broncos would like to forget. I think this game will be more competitive, but I ultimately expect the same outcome with the Seahawks being the home team. Pick: Seahawks

Chiefs at Dolphins: The Chiefs played better on the road against Denver, but that still wasn’t enough. The Dolphins did not play well in Buffalo, and took a step back from the Week 1 win against New England. I just don’t think the Chiefs are a good team this year. Pick: Dolphins

Steelers at Panthers: Cam returned and led the Panthers to 2-0 with a victory over the Lions. The Carolina defense is top 2 along with the Seahawks and they should pressure Big Ben all night. However as I said earlier, it’s really interesting how primetime games play out. Pick: Steelers

Bears at Jets: The Bears showed they have some fight in them to comeback and beat the 49ers on Sunday night. I’m still not sold on their defense, especially without Peanut Tillman the rest of the year. Geno Smith is a threat on the feet, just as Kaepernick was a week earlier, and the Jets also have a solid defense. The Bears receiving corp should be a week healthier, which will give the Jets fits like the Packers corp did, but I’m sticking with my primetime conspiracies. Pick: Jets
