Update: Colts Release WR Da’Rick Rogers

The Indianapolis Colts learned that wide receiver Da’Rick Rogers was arrested last night due to DUI on the IUPUI campus, and it didn’t take them long to take action. According to Mike Wells of ESPN, the Colts have released Rogers from the roster. This isn’t too much of a surprise, as the Colts are one of the strictest teams when it comes to team rules and behavior issues off of the field.

Needless to say, this is extremely disappointing for Colts fans who have seen the potential that Rogers possesses last season. He is extremely athletic and has top end speed as well. Hopefully this will be a learning experience for Rogers and he can get his life and career back on track.

Rogers ended up playing in five games for the Colts last season, catching 14 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns. At 6’3″ and 215 pounds, he was a very difficult player to defend for any opposing defensive back. The Colts kept him on the roster this season due to the potential that he had for the future, but off the field issues are something that they will not overlook for any player.

This isn’t the first time that Rogers has gotten into trouble outside of football, and that is what made him such a risk when the Colts originally signed him. Unfortunately, he has not grown up and is still making the same type of poor choices that made him a risky pickup in the first place. It could very well be the last time that Rogers steps on an NFL field, and that is disappointing to say after seeing the way that he can impact games last year.
