Percy Harvin was a couple trade facets away from being the newest receiver on the Indianapolis Colts’ roster.

Reported first by NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport and Conor Orr, Harvin was shopped around to teams like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns and the Indianapolis Colts before being traded to the Jets for next to nothing.

It’s probably a good thing that Harvin didn’t come to Indianapolis in that trade deal in what could have been a bad PR move by the Colts’ front office. There’s no doubt that Harvin is a talented receiver and young playmaker, but with Harvin comes the acidic side in the locker room. He’s gifted, but Indy has an extremely crowded receiving core that is even seeing Hakeem Nicks barely get any touches. It’s probably a good thing that the Colts weren’t able to corral him as he wouldn’t have been a fan-favorite.

The question that immediately pops into my head is what the Colts would have offered for Percy Harvin. It didn’t look like Seattle was interested in drafts picks as the talks with the Browns included top tight end Jordan Cameron. If it was a tight end that the Seahawks were looking for, it’s a possibility that Dwayne Allen or Coby Fleener were in the mix. If a serious trade for Allen was in the air, that would have made for some very angry Colts fans as Allen has been an integral part of the offense this year, especially catching touchdowns in the red zone. If Fleener was in the discussion, fans would not have been happy, but it’s much more realistic as Fleener’s involvement in Indianapolis hasn’t been nearly as big since the return of Allen.

Bottom line, Harvin is on to new and…interesting…things in the Meadowlands while our tight ends stay put. It’s a nice thought to have another one of the better wideouts in the game, but keeping that potentially repulsive ego out of the locker room certainly keeps this Colts fan content.
