The Indianapolis Colts have dealt with quite a few different injury issues throughout the course of the season, and now they will be without veteran star wide receiver Reggie Wayne. Wayne is expected to miss at least one or two games due to the elbow injury that he suffered on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals, according to a report from Pro Football Talk.

Indianapolis has seen their offense explode over the last few weeks, but losing Wayne will definitely hurt. He has been one of the most consistent wide receivers in the NFL for quite some time, and is rising his way towards the top of quite a few records. The Colts will miss him for the next week or two, and there is no doubt that Andrew Luck and the offense will take a hit.

Hakeem Nicks is going to be one of the players that the Colts need to step up, and rookie Donte Moncrief is another player that is likely to see a major role increase. Wayne injured his elbow while getting tackled on Sunday, but stayed in the game and tried to play through it. He said after the game that he was going to “go home and drink an adult beverage and see how it felt tomorrow”, but obviously that beverage didn’t help.

Hopefully he only misses the next game or two, and this injury won’t be something that nags at him long-term. It will be fun for Colts’ fans to see Moncrief get more run, and the offense might not even skip a beat. Luck has been playing at such a high level this year that he will be able to lead whoever he has out on the field to success.

Needless to say, the Colts are finally looking like the Super Bowl contenders that many expected them to be. They will have a hard time defeating the Denver Broncos, but they played them very tough in Week 1. Indianapolis is back on the right track, and this injury to Wayne likely won’t change that.

Expect the team to step up in place of Wayne and keep up the winning streak that the Colts currently have.
