Should The Colts Bench Trent Richardson?

“He was traded to the Colts mid-season,” they said. “He needs a full training camp,” they said. “He’s motivated and ready to prove the doubters wrong,” they said. “It can’t get much worse than last year,” they said.

THEY…were wrong. With a full off-season under his belt, Richardson has averaged 3.3 yards per carry, while only rushing for 445 yards through 11 games.

Richardson has been outplayed this year. First, by Ahmad Bradshaw (who recently suffered a broken ankle), and now by third-string running back Daniel “Boom” Herron. Herron showed signs, in the preseason, that he could play in the NFL and is taking advantage of his opportunity.

Both Herron and Richardson had 8 carries on Sunday, with Boom rushing for 88 yards and a touchdown, and Richardson pounding out a whopping 12 yards….that’s it 12 yards.

With the Colts and Richardson getting ready to square off against the Cleveland Browns this weekend, it will bring last year’s trade full circle. If Richardson can’t get motivated against the Browns team that gave up on him as their 1st round pick, it may be time for the Colts to follow suit.

Herron and Richardson will likely split carries again this Sunday. Don’t look now Trent, but here comes the BOOM.
