Colts’ Greg Toler: ‘I Know I Can Play Better’

Indianapolis Colts cornerback Greg Toler believes that he can play better and be a bigger difference maker in the secondary.

Greg Toler was signed prior to last season to help Vontae Davis on the corners, but he has yet to make the difference that they were hoping he could make. There is no denying that he has the ability to make plays and come away with some interceptions, but his health has been a major concern throughout his first couple seasons in Indianapolis.

His disappointing play hasn’t just been an issue for the Colts, but he has been upset with himself as well.

"“First and foremost, I’m my biggest critic. Guys were telling me, ‘Hey, it’s going to be all right, it’s cool.’ I say, nah, man. You have to be your biggest critic and put it on your shoulders and man up. That’s what this game was, a man up game. It wasn’t no scheme or anything. It was head to head, mano y mano. And that’s how it’s going to be in the playoffs against these kinds of teams. So, you better get ready for it. But can’t dwell on it too much. Twenty-four hours, man. Then it’s time to move on.”"

The Colts haven’t been able to contend against legitimate playoff teams this season due to problems on both offense and defense. Dallas destroyed them 42-7 last week, and they could have used some playmakers in the defensive backfield. Toler has to figure out how to play better and make more plays if the Colts want to have any chance at a Super Bowl appearance.

Toler has recorded 54 tackles, one forced fumble, two interceptions, and nine defensed passes.

If he is able to reach his full potential and become the defensive playmaker that he is capable of being, the Colts’ playoff chances would rise in a hurry. Indianapolis has plenty of talent and room to grow, but they have to do it now if they want this season to be a legitimate contending season.

Obviously it’s good news that he isn’t happy with how he has played, but he needs to figure out how to improve. The Colts could certainly use him to play better, and he is one of the players with the most upside that could help change this season for the better.
