Notre Dame Suffers Heartbreaking Loss vs. Kentucky

The Irish were the better team for most of the game but were unable to close out the game in the final seconds, losing 68-66 to still-unbeaten Kentucky.

What a game.

I can’t recall ever being more nervous during the entire course of a college basketball game.

Notre Dame didn’t upset the Wildcats but while they came close to it, they sure put up one good fight and had Kentucky fans on the edge of their seat the entire game.

There were times throughout the game when Kentucky had faced challenges that they had never faced during the season.

After having been so used to coasting through the majority of their games during the season and the majority of the tournament, Kentucky saw a Notre Dame team that came to play.

The Irish lead for most of the game and had as much as a six-point lead over the Wildcats at times but Kentucky reminded everyone why they’ve been favorites to win the championship all year-long.

Andrew Harrison hit two clutch free throws with six seconds remaining, helping the Wildcats dodge a bullet giving them the win after a missed three-point attempt from Jerian Grant.

Notre Dame had almost no answer for Karl-Anthony Towns, who lead all scorers for Kentucky with 25 points. The 6-11 forward was no match for Zach Auguste. Towns laid in almost every shot he attempted. Can’t do a whole lot about that.

Kentucky moved to 38-0 with the win over the Irish and will travel to Indianapolis to take on Wisconsin in the Final Four as they look to continue their pursuit of perfection.

For Notre Dame, the loss has to be so deflating after coming so close to knocking off the Wildcats and pulling off the biggest upset of recent memory.

This Irish team has a bright future though, and shouldn’t hang their heads too much on the loss.

For this Irish team the sky is the limit going forward, and we should expect them to make a strong push for the championship next season.

Don’t sleep on Notre Dame next year, folks.
