Greatness runs through Duron Carter’s veins. He is living up to his legacy hauling in 4 touchdowns on Friday’s practice at Colts Training Camp.

Duron Carter is far-exceeding expectations at the Colts training camp in Anderson, IN. Duron Carter – son of Hall of Famer Cris Carter – has already come a long way from his rocky collegiate career and two years north of the border in the CFL. Initially, he was expected to be a developmental project from the CFL, but his progression since OTA’s has coaches, analysts and fans alike taking notice.

Any player attending camp know that you have to make plays if you want to make it onto the 53-man roster. For a player with Duron Carter’s unique combination of size, speed, hands and ball-tracking eyes it would seem a forgone conclusion that he would make the cut. For most NFL teams Carter is a shoo-in. However, the Colts have so much talent at wide receiver that Carter finds himself competing for a roster spot. The only way he can ensure a spot on the roster is to gain the coaches’ collective attentions.

During the August 1st reporting day, Carter told Colts.com that he acknowledges this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Stating his intention to do anything he can to make the team. “Any time the ball is thrown my way [i need to] make a play. Anytime I get it, make a play. I’m really just excited to be here.”

One word has repeatedly used to describe his phenomenal playmaking ability during camp this week… ‘Wow.’ Colts fans, get used to saying that word a lot when Carter is on the field. The media and coaches have already accepted its usage as a foregone conclusion.

“Every day he makes a play that makes you say ‘Wow’.”Offensive Coordinator Pep Hamilton said during the press conference before the full pads practice Wednesday. That statement by Hamilton was made before Duron Carter catapulted himself headlong into the wide receiver competition.

Duron Carter made one eye-popping catch after another on Wednesday night and again on Friday. In fact, he had his best performance on Friday hauling in four touchdowns. That’s right, four touchdowns. That accomplishment alone caught the attention of the national media including ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Kevin Bowen of Colts.com was on site for Friday for Carter prolific day of practice. He described two ‘Wow’ moments during Carter’s four touchdown feat. Of note, was a one-handed catch on a ball that initially appeared overthrown and an up and over catch in the endzone.

Carter’s play has been so impressive that his name is being entered into the third wide receiver discussion. The competition at that position has been of interest all offseason and one of our most intriguing position battles heading into training camp. During Saturday’s press conference, Coach Pagano said that the battle for the 3rd WR is “a very good problem to have.” Pagano then praised Carter for his performance over the week. He prefaced his thoughts on the battle by discussing Carter’s four touchdowns.

From embattled college legacy to praised in training camp, Duron Carter has already come a long way. If he continues to harness the momentum he has built up in camp, there will be many more words used to describe him than just wow. Words like ‘Pro Bowler’ and ‘Elite’ are not so far-fetched an idea as they once were. He might even one day achieve his lifelong dream of stepping out of his Hall of Fame father’s shadow. All he has to do is keep making catches. Especially ones like this one:
