Frank Gore: ‘Andrew Luck is a Football God’

Is Andrew Luck a Football God? If you ask  10-year veteran running back Frank Gore, the answer is yes.

Frank Gore is entering his 11th season in the NFL and his first with the Colts. The 32-year old has seen his share of quarterbacks come and go and played in three consecutive NFC Championship games and in the Super Bowl. Frank Gore knows football.

He praised Andrew Luck when speaking with NFL Network’s Nate Burleson during training camp saying he is a ‘different breed.’

Frank Gore made a recent appearance on the Jim Rome Show and spoke about his new quarterback, Andrew Luck. Gore praised Luck on his awareness, leadership and work ethic.

"“He runs meetings like a coach. Basically, I’m playing with a coordinator on the field. He’s a football God. He sees everything. He sees the big picture of everything.”“He lets me know when [there’s] something I don’t see. He’s just different. How he’s in the huddle, off the field, in the meetings, he runs it. He runs the show, even in the off-season, he ran it. One day he had running backs, the next day he has receivers. He’s just different. He’s a football God.”"

As Bleacher Report’s Chris Polacek points out, Gore knows football and the All-Pro veteran sees something special in Andrew Luck, that he hasn’t seen before. According to Polocek:

"“He’s played with hundreds of teammates and seen how they handle countless situations, and Luck has done enough before Gore’s first regular-season game in Indianapolis to be labeled a football god.”"

It may not come to a surprise for many Colts fans seeing a quarterback who acts like a coordinator on the field and in the classroom. Peyton Manning did that for years, but never can I recall hearing the phrase ‘Football God’ thrown around in reference to Manning. Gore is not some starry-eyed rookie trying to make sure he gets the attention of his QB with such praise. He’s not that kind of guy. When he speaks, he speaks the truth.

Mike Wells of ESPN.com explains why Luck is held in such high regard by all of his weapons. He’s a ‘Human Jugs Machine.’ Indicating that this God of the Gridiron is a benevolent one:

"“Luck’s mind frame is he’ll throw to any player no matter the name on the back of their jersey. He won’t force a ball to Hilton if he’s doubled teamed. Luck will gladly throw underneath to tight end Jack Doyle if he’s open. Luck spends time throwing to all his receivers — not just first and second team players — during practice, which in turn carries over to the games.”"

Many Colts fans must be hoping that the benevolence of the MVP candidate and now ‘football god’ leads them to Santa Clara, California in February and blesses his team with the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
