The Hoosiers opened up the 2013 season with a dominant win over Indiana State, 73-35.

IU set a home record for most points scored. Coach Kevin Wilson could have put up 80 points, which would have been an all-time high, but opted for his team to take a series of knees to run out the clock.

All three quarterbacks saw the field for the Hoosiers as well. Most impressive was sophomore Nate Sudfeld, who was 12-of-17 for 220 yards, four touchdowns, and an interception returned for a touchdown.

Tre Roberson started the game for IU and led the team to three touchdown drives in the first quarter. He 4-for-7 for 75 yards and two touchdowns.

Cam Coffman also got in on the act, but was significantly less effective. He was just 2-for-7 for 29 yards and an interception.

Sudfeld saw the most snaps on the field tonight.

Four different Hoosiers caught touchdowns. Tight end Ted Bolser led all receiver with six catches for 79 yards and two touchdowns. Kofi Hughes has three receptions for 69 yards and a touchdown.

Shane Wynn caught just two passes, but both went for touchdowns. He also had a 58-yard punt return that found the end zone. Wynn left the game early after being illegally hit on a punt return by ISU’s Carlos Aviles. Aviles was ejected from the game for targeting. You can see the play here.

Tevin Coleman churned out yards for the Hoosiers. Coleman rushed for 168 yards and two touchdowns on just 13 carries. As a team, IU rushed for 313 yards.

The defense was solid for IU as they gave up 306 yards. The starting defense only allowed two touchdowns (two came off turnovers returned for TDs and another against the reserves). IU generated four sacks and two turnovers.

ISU’s star running back Shakir Bell rushed for over 100 yards, but left the game early with an injury. Early word was that he suffered a separated shoulder.

IU will stay at home next week to host Navy on Saturday September 7th.

We’ll have more on this game tomorrow.
