The Indianapolis Colts had one major defensive flaw last season, and that was the inconsistency of their secondary. After signing Greg Toler in free agency, they were hoping that he would be able to step up and be the playmaker that they needed in the defensive backfield. Unfortunately, injuries once again derailed his season, and he missed the majority of the season and was unable to make any kind of a difference.

There have been reports that Toler has been impressive early on so far in training camp action, and that could end up being huge news for the Colts as the season continues to draw closer.

If Toler is able to stay on the field at 100% health this season, he is going to be a very dangerous playmaker for the Colts. Their defense is already looking to improve off of last season, but they need to force some turnovers in the secondary. That is one area that Toler has shown major potential in the past, but injuries have also been an unfortunate issue for him.

Toler ended up playing in just nine regular season games with the Colts last season, compiling 23 tackles and an interception. He is a very quick defensive back who isn’t scared to take gambles because of the speed that he possesses. The Colts don’t have a ton of speed in their secondary, and adding Toler into the mix would be a huge help.

Overall, this is a piece of news that Colts fans should be very excited about with the season approaching quickly. Toler was a big addition for them and they seriously believe that he is primed to prove himself in 2014. Don’t be surprised to see him come back and put up big numbers this season, and be a huge piece of the puzzle for the Colts’ defense.
