The Indianapolis Colts dominated the first half of their second preseason game tonight against the New York Giants, and they did it on both sides of the football. Defensively, the Colts were all over the field, and even forced two turnovers that were called back because of illegal contact penalties that were away from the play. Offensively, Andrew Luck looked great and Hakeem Nicks dominated his former team in the passing game.

Luck ended up completing 12 of his 18 pass attempts for 89 yards and a touchdown. Matt Hasselbeck completed four out of his eight passing attempts for 39 yards and a touchdown. Trent Richardson didn’t have a great game, but he did gain 21 yards on nine carries. His yards per average must go up when the regular season arrives, but he had a few plays where he showed the quick decision making and cutting that the Colts have been hoping to see from him this year.

Nicks caught five passes for 53 yards, and was extremely difficult for the Giants’ defense to bring down. Griff Whalen played well in the first half as well with five catches for 32 yards, and Da’Rick Rogers caught a pass for 14 yards and a touchdown. There is no doubt that the offense is ready to go for the regular season, and it showed tonight against the Giants’ defense.

Eli Manning struggled mightily, completing just one out of his seven passing attempts for six yards. The Colts also held the Giants’ running backs Andre Williams and Rashad Jennings to 17 yards apiece. Defensively, the Colts still have some work to do, but theya re looking like a much better unit than they were last season.

Obviously this is just a preseason game, but it’s a very encouraging sign for them and certainly has shown improvement from last week. They have the majority of their key players clicking on all cylinders, and they dominated nearly every aspect of the game. The Colts are ready to get the regular season underway, and this game is giving fans quite a few reasons to be excited. It should be a fun second half for the Colts, so be sure to tune in if you didn’t watch the first half.
