The Indiana Hoosiers locked up three-star quarterback Tommy Stevens earlier this year, and they are extremely excited about his future. They believe that he has the potential to slide into the starting role in a year or two, and has the leaderships skills to make some noise in the Big Ten. Stevens agreed to do an exclusive interview with InkOnIndy.com’s own Evan Massey.
We hope that you enjoy this interview!
Q. Thanks for taking the time to do this interview. How are you doing?
A. Not a problem! Thank you for interviewing me! Doing very well, how about yourself?
Q. Can’t complain, thanks for asking. What made you choose to commit to IU?
A. IU in general is on the rise. I’m really excited about some of the things going on there. I’m really excited in pursuing the business program there, in the Kelley School of Business. I’m very comfortable with the players and the coaches. They treat me as if I’m a part of the team already. Lastly, I can’t look away from the opportunity at the QB position. With Nate leaving sometime in the next two years, the position is really wide open and I’m very excited to come in and compete.
Q. How would you describe your game to a fan who hasn’t heard much of you?
A. I’ve never gotten this question before! Haha. If I had to describe myself to a fan, I’d say that I’m someone who is always playing hard no matter what is going on in the game.
Q. How long have you been playing football? When did you realize that you had this much potential?
A. I’ve been playing for as long as I can remember. To be completely honest with you, I didn’t know that I was going to play college football anywhere going into junior season, and that was when I “blew up”. It’s still crazy to me.
Q. Do you know any NFL players? Are you close with other D-1 players?
A. Very close with lots of kids around the area. I’ve met some of the top college QB’s around the country. Manziel, Mariota, and McCarron. I’m still looking forward to meeting Colin Kaepernick, as he is my favorite of all time.
Q. Is there a current college quarterback that you would compare your game to?
A. Marcus Mariota. I love the way that guy plays and I think I’m somewhat similar. I have a lot of work to do before I get to his level though.
Q. Where do you see the Hoosiers in the next 3-4 years?
A. I haven’t really looked that far to be honest. I know we will be a very good football team, but right now I’m focused on my senior season at Decatur Central.
Q. What do you enjoy doing in your free time off the field?
A. I like hanging out with close friends and family, or playing other sports. I’ve been a three sport athlete since I started playing sports. This will be the first time in my life not playing three sports because I am graduating early.
Q. What advice would you give to a young QB with D-1 dreams?
A. Dream big. No matter what. Work hard, do the right things, and good things are bound to happen.
Q. Anything you’d like to say to college football fans in closing?
A. It’s football season! Favorite time of the year!
We hope that you enjoyed this interview with Tommy, and we also hope that you follow him as he plays his senior season with Decatur Central. Indiana football has a bright young prospect coming up in the ranks, and he could very well be the starting quarterback of the Hoosiers at some point in the next few years. Share this interview around to your friends and fellow fans!
