Indianapolis Colts’ Top 3 Performances From Win vs. Houston Texans
By Brian Neal
After dropping their first two games, the Indianapolis Colts have won three-straight games, all within the division. I know they play in the AFC South, but it’s never easy to do that, and this game against the Houston Texans certainly wasn’t as easy as it could’ve been.
The Colts jumped out to a 24-0 lead after the first, but the Texans made it a game and almost completed the comeback, falling 33-28. If not for a few clutch performances, especially defensively down the stretch, Indy fans might be a singing a different tune right now. However, they did hold on and the Colts are now sitting atop the division at 3-2.
With that said, who played the biggest parts in this big divisional win?
3. QB Andrew Luck
It’s almost cheating writing this type of article about the Colts because this guy is always one of, if not the main reason they win. Luck was solid again, even with a couple mistakes in this one. His numbers weren’t as pretty as they were vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans, but he still threw for 370 yards and three touchdowns. It’s amazing how much of a difference he’s made in Indy since being drafted. He’s just a winner.
2. DE Bjoern Werner
With no Robert Mathis, the Colts put pressure on Ryan Fitzpatrick all game, finishing with five sacks. However, none were bigger than the game-clinching sack-fumble forced by Werner. Without that play which occurred with just under two minutes to go with the Texans trailing by only five points, who knows how this game would’ve ended up? Their comeback opportunity was thwarted by great coverage and an even better individual effort from Werner.
1. WR T.Y. Hilton
This week, there was no question who the biggest playmaker was for the Colts. Hilton had a career day catching nine balls for 223 yards and a touchdown. He created so much separation and took advantage of every opportunity. Luck throws such a pretty deep ball to this guy, and the hooked up down the field a few times in this one. If he didn’t have such a big game, Houston might’ve taken this one, and he was the biggest contributor to the Colts’ third W of the year.
