Indianapolis, IN – The Indianapolis Colts came out with a purpose this afternoon against the Cincinnati Bengals, and ended up playing an even better game than expected. Indianapolis shut out the Bengals on the afternoon, defeating them by a final score of 27-0. Cincinnati simply couldn’t get their offense going, while Andrew Luck and the Colts’ offense was able to put together a very impressive game once again.
This game could very well have major playoff implications later on in the season, and it definitely was a statement win for the Colts. They got off to a slow start this season, but are proving now after their fifth straight win that they are one of the best teams in the NFL. Everything seems to be going right over the past few weeks for the Colts, and their offense continues to look better with each passing week.
Luck led the way for the Colts with yet another big game, passing for 344 yard, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. His counterpart Andy Dalton was only able to come up with 126 yards on the afternoon, and didn’t throw a touchdown or an interception.
Erik Walden was ejected from the game in the second quarter due to making incidental contact with a referee, but that didn’t end up coming back to hurt the Colts. The call was very suspect, as it was obvious that both Walden and Bengals’ tight end Jermaine Gresham were both pushing each other at the same time and Walden just happened to barely bump the ref.
Trent Richardson also came through with a nice game for the Colts, carrying the football 14 times for 77 yards before leaving the game late with what appeared to be a sore hamstring. Ahmad Bradshaw also picked up 52 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.
T.Y. Hilton continued his impressive run of performances with seven catches for 107 yards, while Dwayne Allen came through with a nice 32-yard touchdown pass. Bradshaw caught the other touchdown on the afternoon, and Coby Fleener caught four passes for 64 yards as well.
Needless to say, this was a very encouraging performance for the Colts as they move forward to face the Pittsburgh Steelers next week. Luck has the offense rolling, and the defense is just continuing to get better each week. Chuck Pagano has to be proud of his football team, and the Colts look like legitimate Super Bowl contenders once again.
