Indianapolis, IN – The Butler Bulldogs improved to 3-0 on the season by defeating the Loyola (MD) Greyhounds by a final score of 80-39. It was an outcome that was very much expected, and Butler took care of business.
Through the first three games of the season against lower competition, the Bulldogs have looked very solid. They have been dealing with the change of coaching after Brandon Miller stepped away on medical leave, and haven’t had any issues figuring things out under new head coach Chris Holtmann.
Kelan Martin led the way for the Bulldogs, coming off the bench to score 29 points on 9-13 shooting and 3-5 from behind the three-point arc. He also grabbed seven rebounds on the night to lead his team.
Kellen Dunham scored 13 points on 5-9 shooting today for Butler, knocking down 3-3 from behind the three-point arc. Dunham will be the main leader for the Bulldogs all season long, and he has looked very solid so far through the first three games. Roosevelt Jones was the only other double digit scorer for Butler on the night, scoring 10 points to go along with six assists and four steals.
Loyola was led by Eric Laster who scored 24 points in the game on 9-15 shooting. Their only other double figure scorer was Franz Rassman, who scored 10 points to go along with 10 rebounds to round out his double-double.
Butler is happy with their 3-0 record to start the year, and they are looking forward to their next game against the North Carolina Tar Heels on Wednesday night. Needless to say, that will be a major test and the Bulldogs have a chance to make a huge statement if they can find a way to pull out a win against the #6 ranked team in the nation.
