Colts Proven Right For Picking Luck Over RGIII

The Indianapolis Colts were proven right for picking Andrew Luck when the news broke that Robert Griffin III would be benched.

Andrew Luck was selected over Robert Griffin III with the number one overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, and there were quite a few people that weren’t too sure that the Indianapolis Colts were making the right decision. Some wanted them to go with the better playmaker and more mobile quarterback, but the Colts chose to go with a guy that could become their second Peyton Manning.

Through the first three seasons of both players’ NFL careers, it has been very obvious that the Colts’ choice to select Luck was the right decision. That choice was further proven to be correct when the news broke that Griffin would be benched this week in what would have been the two quarterbacks’ first game against each other.

Luck has thrown for 11,837 yards already on the season to go along with 75 touchdowns and 37 interceptions. Griffin on the other hand has thrown for 7,272 yards, 38 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions. Those two stat lines show just how right the Colts were in their decision, and they 43 and 33 games respectively as well.

Griffin has struggled through some fairly serious injury issues already in his career, which is a major cause for concern for the Redskins. They strongly believe that he is still in the long-term plans, but this move suggests that they also view Colt McCoy as a player who could have a future with them at the quarterback position.

Needless to say, this week is just further proof and final obvious fact that Luck was the better pick for the Colts. He has taken steps forward each and every year, and is looking more and more like the franchise quarterback that they envisioned him being.

It will be very intriguing to see what Luck is able to do against the Redskins and what McCoy is able to do as well. There is no question that the Redskins are giving him a chance to prove that his success in his first two appearances of the season was more than just luck. Indianapolis doesn’t have a great pass defense, which gives McCoy a solid chance to make a bid to be the Redskins’ starter for at least another week.

Washington simply isn’t confident in their “franchise” quarterback, while the Colts are very happy and encourage with what they have seen. The Colts made the right choice, and it is showing in full glory this week with Griffin sitting the bench and Luck starring on the field leading his team.
