The Butler Bulldogs knocked off the Georgetown Hoyas 64-58 to finish third in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament.

Coming into this afternoon’s game against the Georgetown Hoyas, the Butler Bulldogs were 4-1 and looking to make a statement against yet another good team. Their only loss came against a very talented Oklahoma Sooners team, and they also defeated the fifth ranked North Carolina Tar Heels. Butler made a statement once again today, and are a team to be reckoned with this season.

Butler has been a team to watch in recent history, but has gone downhill since Brad Stevens left to coach the Boston Celtics. That being said, new interim head coach Chris Holtmann is making a case to be their next head coach and could very well win the job over Brandon Miller. Miller is the Bulldogs’ current head coach, but he is on extended medical leave.

Kellen Dunham came through with a big game today for the Bulldogs in the win, scoring 16 points on 5-10 shooting. He was much more aggressive getting to the rim, and he made some huge plays down the stretch to help pull out the victory for Butler. As he continues to be more aggressive getting to the rim, his game will grow and his scoring numbers will increase.

Alex Barlow had another nice game for Butler with 11 points, while freshman Kelan Martin came up with 10 points off the bench.

Isaac Copeland led the Hoyas in scoring with 16 points off of the bench, while Paul White was the second leading scorer with 13 points off the bench. D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera scored 12 points to round out the double digit scorers for Georgetown.

This was a big win for Butler and it moves them to 5-1 on the season. They are going to have a very difficult schedule this year in the Big East, but they look more than prepared to take on the challenge. There is no question that they are playing at a high level and can hang with the better teams across the nation after their performance in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament.

Next up for the Bulldogs will be a date with the Indiana State Sycamores on Wednesday night.
