Ending several weeks of speculation, former UAB standout running back, Jordan Howard has committed to finish his college football career at Indiana University.  Howard now rejoins former UAB teammate Marqui Hawkins in a Hoosier offense that, with the return of Starting QB Nate Sudfeld, hopes to regain the momentum it had in 2013, when the Hoosiers possessed one of the highest scoring offenses in the Big Ten.

At 6’1, 228 lbs, Howard,  from a physical standpoint, certainly fits the mold of  type of running back that Tevin Coleman brought to the Hoosier backfield. Following the departure of the Hoosiers’ consensus first team all-American, Howard figures to come in where Coleman left off, giving Kevin Wilson another nationally elite running threat.

In his sophomore season at UAB, Howard ranked seventh nationally in rushing yards at 1,587, scoring 13 rushing touchdowns while boasting eight games of 100 yards or more.

In a recent IU press release regarding the new addition, Hoosier coach Kevin Wilson said of Howard,”We recruited (Howard) very, very hard and we are excited he is joining us. The sign of a good program is finding good players to replace good players, and we have done just that.” Rarely (and I’m not sure it’s ever been done) does a college program have the luxury of replacing one top-10 rusher with another one, and the Hoosiers have done just that.

Indiana now has 17 freshman commitments for the 2015 class. Adding two talented transfers who will likely become instant starters for a Hoosier offense, would easily rank IU’s recruiting class in the top half of the Big Ten conference.
