Indy signed Cherilus as a free agent back in 2013, and he had been the Colts starting right tackle ever since. The Colts have had a hard time keeping Andrew Luck upright this season, and will now likely turn to Joe Reitz, or move rookie Jack Mewhort out to right tackle, against the Bengals on Sunday.
Cherilus signed a five-year, $34.5 million contract. The deal contains $15.5 million guaranteed — a $10 million signing bonus. 2014: $1 million, 2015: $4 million, 2016: $7 million, 2017: $7.5 million.
Some believe Cherilus has been on the decline since joining the Colts. If that’s the case, it’s not a good sign that he’s due more and more as he nears the end of his contract.
GM Ryan Grigson has had hits and misses when it comes to the draft and free agency.
So far Grigson’s offensive line moves like Donald Thomas, Samson Satele, and perhaps even Gosder Cherilus….aren’t going according to plan for the Indianapolis Colts.
The Colts promoted guard David Arkin from the practice squad, to fill the vacant roster spot left by Gosder Cherilus.
