Indiana Hoosiers Get Big Win Over Maryland
By Evan Massey
The #23 Indiana Hoosiers came up with a huge 89-70 victory over the #13 Maryland Terrapins.
Bloomington, IN – Yogi Ferrell and the #23 Indiana Hoosiers were looking to come up with a big win over the #13 Maryland Terrapins at home this evening, and they were able to deliver a big upset win.
Indiana got off to a very inconsistent start of the season, but they have won four straight Big 10 games over the Ohio State Buckeyes, Penn State Nittany Lions, Illinois Fighting Illini, and now the Terrapins. All four of those games are statements that the Hoosiers have made, and they believe that they are legitimate contenders this season.
Ferrell went off against Maryland this evening, scoring 24 points on 8-10 shooting including 7-8 from behind the three-point arc. He has been an excellent leader all season long, and is making a case to be an NBA Draft prospect. As a junior he still has plenty of room to grow and time to do it before he has to enter the draft, and these types of games are definitely going to help get his name out.

Freshman James Blackmon Jr. put up a big game as well, scoring 22 points on 8-14 shooting. Troy Williams scored 16 points to go along with seven rebounds, while Collin Hartman scored 15 points to round out the Hoosiers’ double digit scorers.
Maryland was led by Jake Layman who scored 13 points on the night. They also saw Jared Nickens and Melo Trimble score 12 and 10 points respectively to round out the Terrapins’ double figure scorers.
Needless to say, this was a big win for the Hoosiers and will likely take them up in the rankings a bit. They have looked like a team that could have a chance to make a deep run in the NCAA tournament if they keep playing like they have, and Tom Crean appears to be back in control of his team. Ferrell and Blackmon will need to continue leading the way, and Williams is improving as the season progresses as well.
Up next for the Hoosiers is a meeting on the road with Ohio State on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 Eastern. They are 15-4 on the season, but have a 5-1 record so far in conference play.
