Report: Former Hoosier Will Sheehey To NBA D-League
According to European basketball news site, Sportando.com former Hoosier swing man, Will Sheehey will soon be playing in the NBA D-League. An NBA hopeful when he graduated in 2014, Sheehey worked out for several NBA teams, including the Indiana Pacers, but ultimately was undrafted, and opted to play overseas.
Part of the often talked about 2009 Hoosiers recruiting class that also included 2012 second overall pick, Victor Oladipo, Sheehey was another under the radar recruit that ultimately ended up being a diamond in the rough for Tom Crean. A native of Stuart, FL, Sheehey is the son of former Syracuse and St. Bonaventure player, Mike Sheehey, and the Nephew of former Virginia Cavalier and Boston Celtic, Tom Sheehey. He has a basketball pedigree. That, along with his athleticism and oft espoused great work ethic, led most to believe he at least had a chance to play pro ball at some point.

His dramatic improvement between his freshman and sophomore seasons led many to believe that the a career in the NBA was not out of the question for the 6’7 forward, but a somewhat disappointing senior campaign left him on the outside looking in come draft day.
Sheehey is a member of Indiana’s 1,000 point club, and ranks 38th all time on the Hoosier scoring charts, with 1,120 career points.
He ultimately ended up playing in Montenegro this season, averaging 5.2 points and 2.2 rebounds per contest in a brief stint with Budcucnost. In December, it was reported the Sheehey and Budnucnost had agreed to part ways. It’s unclear as to which party initiated the split, and what the reasoning was.
It has yet to be determined what team Sheehey will end up playing for, but his sudden move to the D-League would seem to signify renewed interest in his talents. Be sure to follow my twitter account, @HoosierHaze, for an update on this story as soon as it becomes available.
