#8 Notre Dame Upsets #4 Duke 77-73

The #8 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish upset the #4 ranked Duke Blue Devils by a final score of 77-73.

South Bend, IN – The eighth ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish were looking to come up with a huge win over the fourth ranked Duke Blue Devils, and were able to do just that. They will rise in the rankings after the upset, and were able to pull off a bit of a comeback to win 77-73.

Notre Dame has been an impressive team all year long, and are 20-2 on the season so far. Knocking off Duke was a huge step in the right direction, and it shows just how capable they are of competing with the big dogs in college basketball. It was a very complete game, and they were able to stay composed even when they got down.

Jerian Grant led the way for the Irish once again this evening, scoring 23 points to go along with 12 assists and six rebounds. He shot 9-15 from the field, and was a great leader as well both vocally and emotionally. Zach Auguste scored 14 points on the night, and also grabbed six rebounds.

Pat Connaughton scored 13 points while nailing three shots from beyond the three-point arc, and also grabbed 12 rebounds. Demetrius Jackson was the only other double digit scorer on the night for Notre Dame with 10 points.

Duke was led by star big man Jahlil Okafor with 22 points and 17 rebounds. He has been a dominant big man all season long, but it simply wasn’t enough tonight. Quinn Cook also had a nice game for the Blue Devils, scoring 15 points.

Tyus Jones scored 14 points, while the only other double figure scorer for Duke was Justise Winslow who scored 13 points.

This was a huge statement game by Notre Dame, and they are looked at even more seriously after this type of a win. Their next game on the schedule is on Saturday on the road against Pittsburgh. Notre Dame is a serious contender this season, and they showed it once again this evening against Duke.
