Indianapolis Colts Release Safety LaRon Landry
By Evan Massey
The Indianapolis Colts are going to be very busy this offseason as they work to improve off of an impressive 2014 season. LaRon Landry was signed a couple years ago to beef up the Colts’ secondary, but that experiment came to a disappointing end this afternoon when the Colts released him.
Quite simply, Landry never lived up to the expectations and was awful this past season. He missed tackles, was terrible in coverage, and was never able to bring the type of hard-hitting that the Colts expected out of him when they originally signed him.
During the 2014 season, Landry recorded 46 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Those numbers aren’t going to cut it for a starting safety, and the Colts are done hoping that he can turn things around. Sergio Brown showed a lot of potential when he jumped into the starting lineup to replace Landry during his four-game suspension, and the Colts are still really high on him.
All of that being said, this is a very disappointing situation for the Colts and Landry. His career as a starting safety could very well be over, but there are some teams that could give him a deal to prove himself.
No matter what happens, Landry will go down as a major bust with the Colts.
