Indianapolis Colts: Hakeem Nicks Is Just An Afterthought
On March 14, 2014 former New York Giants receiver Hakeem Nicks signed a one-year, $5.5 million deal with the Indianapolis Colts, expected to be the team’s No. 2 receiver behind T.Y. Hilton.
Nicks never lived up to the expectations though after a disappointing campaign in 2014. He only had 38 receptions for a mere 405 yards and only four touchdowns.
The Colts certainly didn’t get the Hakeem Nicks of the past that they had hoped for when he signed with the team.
The Hakeem Nicks who had over 1,000 yards receiving and 11 touchdown receptions in 2010?
That Hakeem Nicks stayed put in New York.
So far Ryan Grigson and the Colt’s front-office has made no efforts to re-sign the 27 year-old veteran receiver, which comes as no surprise considering Nicks was a ghost for the majority of the season.

The addition of Andre Johnson to the Colt’s receiving squad gives little to no doubt as to why many should believe that the Colts will make little, if any efforts to bring back Hakeem Nicks.
With the Colts having many needs to address next season, most notably being re-signing both Andrew Luck and T.Y. Hilton, it is highly unlikely that Grigson will be looking to spend a large amount of money on low productivity. Especially any money that could be useful next year in retaining the team’s key players.
This marks the second year that the team has whiffed on a veteran receiver in free-agency with hopes of adding a legitimate play-maker.
Darrius Heyward-Bey anybody?
All joking aside, Heyward-Bey had all the intangibles to be a good receiver in the league. He just couldn’t catch a pass, or a break, as he saw his role drop to merely being a part of the special teams unit.
Hakeem Nicks will likely get picked up by another team by the regular-season’s start. But his forgettable year that saw him significantly drop in the depth-chart and his lack of production are the factors that make him just an afterthought in every Colt’s fan’s mind.
