Mike Wells of ESPN lists Pagano as the one person in the organization with the most to prove on the Colts this year. Wells specifies the pressure he is under and what he has to do to secure his contract extension.

"Pagano arrived in Indianapolis in 2012 with a defensive reputation after being defensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens. The Colts have been inconsistent — and even embarrassed at times — on defense in Pagano’s three seasons. A strong start will eliminate any thought of Pagano letting his lame-duck status impact his ability to get his team ready to play every week. But simply winning the AFC South may not be enough for Pagano to keep his job. The Colts didn’t build their roster with the thoughts of just winning the division for the third straight season. General manager Ryan Grigson put it together with the vision of making a run at the Super Bowl. That would be the next step in the progression for the franchise after it reached the AFC Championship Game last season. Pagano will be able to get a nice contract from the Colts or another team with a head coaching vacancy if he leads Indianapolis to the Super Bowl this season."

Grigson upgraded the roster expertly this offseason. In essence, he took Pagano’s keys to the Corvette after last season and handed him the keys to a McLaren this year. Chuck Pagano is only on a hot seat because he passed on the one-year extension.

He is wagering that he can bring that McLaren home with a Lombardi Trophy in the passenger seat. Who could blame him? Chuck Pagano has the most to prove but that is not a bad thing. He is where his feet are and looks to be standing on a sideline in Santa Clara, California come February 7th.
