Myles Turner
Last team: Texas Longhorns – Drafted 11th Overall
Strength: Size/Mobility/Rim Protector
Myles Turner was a beast in the Summer League and has done good work in turning negative opinions around after he was picked in the first round of this year’s draft. He is still developing his shot and concerns on his running style appeared to have been much more exaggerated then previously thought, so Turner is currently looking like the first round pick both Bird and Vogel wanted him to be – but it’s early. He is a mobile center, which the team desperately were searching for, and has a lot of work still to do on developing as a true talent, but early indications are that the Pacers made the right move by drafting the Texas alum.
Joe Young
Last team: Oregon Ducks – Drafted 43rd Overall
Strength: Shooting/Ball handling
Joe Young is one of the more underrated picks in this year’s draft, slipping to the mid-2nd round when Indiana dapped him up as their selection. He led the Orlando Summer League with 22.5 points per game. Young has a good shot and played point guard at Oregon, giving the Pacers guard depth seeing as Donald Sloan won’t be back, and though he may not fit as a point guard in the NBA he still provides the Pacers with some extra offense and shooting that they need at the guard position.
