Together, these signings represent a new era of the Indiana Pacers, a team willing to sacrifice defense for more offense.
It is a move that Pacers teams of past wouldn’t dream of. After losing David West the team is still searching for a real leader in the locker room, but the hope is that Paul George will emerge as “that guy” this season as he continues his return from the horrific leg injury suffered almost one year ago to date.
Regardless of whether the Pacers vastly improve from last year, having a healthy Paul George is the first step in making a run at another NBA Finals appearance. It may take time for this team to gel and form a rhythm of sorts, but if they can do it quickly and get off to a good start, come October we may be saying different things.
