Projected Pacers Line-up and Depth Chart
As the #ColtsCamp gets underway ahead of the new season, it serves as a friendly reminder that the Pacers season is also not far away. And with a new season and a drastically new roster for Indy’s favorite basketball team it’s a good time to remind the Blue & Gold faithful what they can expect to see on the court this season:
Potential starters
PG – George Hill
SG – Monta Ellis
SF – C.J. Miles
PF – Paul George
C – Myles Turner (Rookie)
Sixth man: Rodney Stuckey
Others: Joe Young (Rookie), Chase Budinger, Solomon Hill, Lavoy Allen, Rakeem Christmas, Glenn Robinson III, Jordan Hill, Ian Mahinmi, Shayne Whittington
It’s entirely possible that Paul George plays a lot of minutes at forward this season, and it’s likely that he begins the season at this spot as Indiana seeks to move towards a bigger but just as mobile team. Alongside PG, it’s easy to see both George Hill and Ellis will start, but C.J. Miles will likely start this season at small forward while the Pacers wait to see who will step up.
The team has loaded up on forwards from the draft (Turner), trades (Budinger), and free agency (J. Hill, Christmas, Robinson, etc.) but it remains to be seen whether the added names will provide quality in depth or simply just depth, and while Pacers fans were used to expecting their team to challenge for the title with a healthy George, West, and Hibbert, this season may be a little more eye-opening than in years past.
The Pacers are still going to show their stuff and the number one priority remains a healthy Young Trece, but the depth chart looks like a whole lot of spark in the starting five and a whole lot of…erm, average… talents coming off of the bench. While the team waits to find out its schedule, it first has to deal with coming together as one under Vogel and fans should be weary that there may be more “Blue Collar” and less “Gold Swagger” in this year’s squad as they prepare to eventually return for a title challenge in the coming seasons.
