T.Y. Hilton Agrees to 5-year Contract Extension With the Colts
By Dave McKee
T.Y. Hilton agreed to a contract extension with the Indianapolis Colts just days before training camps ends.
T.Y. Hilton will be a Colt for years to come. The wait is over and without any season long distractions. Super Agent, Drew Rosenhaus was on site in Anderson, Indiana on Wednesday finalizing the deal with the Colts. At the end of negotiations, The Indianapolis Colts and T.Y. Hilton agreed to terms for a 5-year $65 million extension with $39 million guaranteed.

Hilton will play under his rookie contract this season with the extension kicking in next season. His salary for 2015 will be $1.542 million. Hilton’s extension will average $13 million over the next five seasons with 60% of that salary is now guaranteed.
According to Spotrac, Hilton will now be the 4th highest paid receiver in the NFL. Before the contract extension, Hilton ranked as the 65th highest paid wide receiver and only third highest paid on the Indianapolis Colts.

Hilton’s contract will likely be eclipsed by the Steelers’ Antonio Brown who also has Drew Rosenhaus as an agent. Reports are Rosenhaus and his brother worked throughout the night to complete the deal with Indianapolis.
Rosenhaus is now on his way to Jacksonville to meet with the Pittsburgh Steelers executives to negotiate terms on a deal for Brown. Nonetheless, T.Y. Hilton will now be paid like a top-5 receiver after he completes his rookie contract this season.
Colts GM Ryan Grigson was pleased to announce the deal this morning:
"It’s a great day for the Indianapolis Colts, T.Y. Hilton and his family. We’re extremely happy as an organization to ensure that T.Y. will continue to be a part of our journey for many years to come. His daily excellence on and off the field is a shining example of an individual striving for greatness and what it truly means to be a Colt."
The Reaction:
The reaction around the NFL has been positive. Hilton has earned and deserved a pay raise and he got one. The reaction around the local and national media has been positive acknowledging the need to keep Hilton and secure the weapons for Andrew Luck.
Hilton’s teammates all expressed their reactions on social media. Ranging from respectful like fellow wide receiver Donte Moncrief to the hilarious as expected from punter/comedian Pat McAfee.
This is the first re-signing of 2012 draft class and the first step to retaining the future of the Colts core players for years to come. This also makes things easier for the Colts future negotiations with Andrew Luck and his offensive weapons Dwayne Allen, Coby Fleener and left tackle Anthony Castonzo who is next up for an extension.
The great news is that letting T.Y. Hilton play out his contract will not come back to haunt the Colts, instead it will be #TheGhost haunting opposing defensive coordinators
dreams
nightmares for years to come.
