Colts vs. Jets: Final Thoughts ahead of Kickoff

The matchups in the trenches will be crucial for the success of both teams. Similar to week one, If the Colts can protect Luck and open holes for Frank Gore, then the Colts will be able to control the tempo.

Andrew Luck must play better than he did against Buffalo. If he can avoid the pressure, he has a chance to carve up the Jets with a mix of run and pass. This game will be determined by which quarterback makes the best reads and audibles at the line of scrimmage.  Will Luck or Fitzpatrick have the most success?

The Colts habitually do not lose back-to-back games. They are 14-1 following a loss in the Andrew Luck era. But, this game could be a second trap game in as many weeks if the Jets find success in coverage and in the trenches. After the shellacking they took in week one, the Colts offense, defense and special teams need to come out with chips on their shoulders. Each group appeared to “mail it in” at varying times against Buffalo and the Colts cannot afford a repeat performance at home.

The 12th man in Lucas Oil Stadium will need to be as raucous as the Bills fans were Ralph Wilson stadium last week. The Colts need a home win and should come out highly motivated to bloody the Jets noses early after taking such a beating a week before.

The Colts home opener in Lucas Oil Stadium will be broadcast live on ESPN. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 pm EST.
