Indy Eleven’s Brad Ring scores potential goal of the year

When Indy Eleven midfielder Brad Ring wound up a late effort against Minnesota United, it sealed the deal on a big three points with one home game left.

It hasn’t been the best run in the fall season for Indy Eleven – though you don’t have to tell President and General Manager Peter Wilt about it, he’s well aware and has a positive vision going forward. But that was not what Saturday was about – no, Saturday was about elation, and more importantly, likely the goal of the season from Brad Ring.

A couple of things:

1) WOW. What a strike. Let’s forget that the majority of the time for the majority of players that ball is sent sky high and out of the stadium on a one-time hit, and rather let’s just enjoy what we saw.

2) That has to be goal of the year, right? I mean, the NASL has produced a few stunners, and Indy Eleven has been involved more than once. There was Ring’s effort on Saturday, and Sergio Pena produced this effort against San Antonio in April of this year that also has a solid shout:

The New York Cosmos feel they have a claim at goal of the year on this effort from Hunter Freeman, but you be the judge:

Regardless, it was a solid outing for Indy Eleven and a win is big even at the late stage of the season for momentum heading into the next campaign. After finishing fifth in the spring season, Indy Eleven took to the fall season a little differently and now sit last on goal differential (-12) with 17 points. Though this run was not what the team would have wanted, it’s moments like Ring’s strike above that keep the BYB, the best supporters section in the league, loud and proud.

If you haven’t caught the “Boys In Blue” yet, your last chance of the fall season is this Saturday, October 24, against the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers (owned in part by Brazilian Ronaldo) – kick off set for 7 pm at Michael A. Carroll Stadium.
