Starting Right Offensive Guard

Heading into training camp, the Indianapolis Colts almost have their entire starting offensive line solidified. The main question mark left is at the right guard spot.

Anthony Castonzo and Jack Mewhort occupy the left side of the offensive line while Joe Reitz appears to be the starter at right tackle. The Colts also drafted center Ryan Kelly to be their immediate starter, which leaves right guard as the only unsettled position.

Right now, Hugh Thornton is the early favorite to win the position, but he will have some competition. Jonotthan Harrison is moving from center to guard this season, and Denzelle Good has also practiced at the position as well.

In reality, Thornton and Harrison are the most likely starting option at right guard. The Colts seem much more concerned with Good working out at the right tackle spot.

Thornton and Harrison have had up-and-down tenures with the Colts. Both guys have multiple starts under their belts, but neither guy has solidified himself as a reliable starter in the past.

Thornton is entering his fourth season with the Colts. He has started in 32 of the 37 games he has played in. He lost his starting role to Todd Herremans at the start of last season, but he was re-inserted into the starting lineup after Week 2.

Meanwhile, Harrison is entering his third season with the Colts. He has started 19 of the 31 games he has played in. Despite being the backup center, he has a lot of starting experience because former starter Khaled Holmes had trouble staying healthy. Now, with Kelly joining the team, the Colts moved Harrison to right guard.

The Colts have the rest of their starting offensive line figured out. They just need someone to step up and solidify himself as the starting right guard in training camp.
