Indianapolis Colts: Andrew Luck Making Strong Progressions in Camp
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck has made big strides towards his progression thus far in training camp. After throwing 12 interceptions through seven games last season, better decision making and cutting down on turnovers is something Luck aims at improving in 2016.
Andrew Luck suffered one of the worst years of his four-year career in 2015. Battling various injury, the 26-year-old quarterback missed over half of the season for the Indianapolis Colts — a far-cry from the success that he had in 2014.
Even when Luck was healthy, he still appeared to look completely off of his game, with his numbers proving just that.
Perhaps one of Luck’s biggest problems was his poor decision making oftentimes. The offensive line’s play may have been atrocious, but the unit was not always to blame for Luck trying to force a pass, or not connecting with his receivers all-together.
Arguably one of Luck’s poorest decisions last season came during the Colts’ week 8 game against the Carolina Panthers. Luck had a solid amount of time in the pocket to make his throw, but the play wasn’t able to fully develop due to the Panthers’ defense. Rather than throwing it away, Luck attempted to force a pass into double-coverage.
Offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski commented on the development of Luck with the Colts’ final day of training camp concluding on Wednesday afternoon, per Kevin Bowen of Colts.com
"“I see improvement every day with Andrew with the way he works at it and the approach he takes. Again, I see the ball coming out quicker. I think his movement through his progressions is better and he’s making his decisions quicker. Some of the technical things with his feet and his base and his balance have been big points of emphasis and he’s making strides in those areas. Again, to do it out here, it starts in the meeting room, it carries out onto the practice field, then it has to go to the preseason games and the games down the road. That’s the progression, that’s the progression we’re looking for, and hopefully those things will show up as we get into these preseason games.”"
When Luck is on top of his game and clicking with the remainder of the Colts’ offense, he plays like one of the league’s best quarterbacks. His NFL-leading 40-touchdown campaign in 2014 proves that point even further.

With a fresh start and good health for Luck to begin the 2016 season, he has the opportunity to silence his doubters and return to his old, dominant form — but it starts with making better decisions on the field.
The Colts travel to Buffalo to take on the Buffalo Bills in the team’s first exhibition game of the year this Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.
