Running Back Josh Adams

Speaking of Josh Adams, he also a player that could have breakout season in 2016. Whether he is the starter or the backup, head coach Brian Kelly will find a way to get this guy on the field.

Adams took advantage of an increase in playing time once Tarean Folston went down in the season opener. As freshman, Adams made his presence known by scoring a touchdown on his first career carry.

This play set the tone for the rest of his freshman season. He accumulated 838 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns on 138 attempts. He also caught six pass for 42 passing yards and one touchdown.

As mentioned before, Adams is competing against Folston for the starting job. However, it might not matter if Adams starts or not. His skill set makes him very useful and will force Brian Kelly to give him a significant amount of playing time.

In comparison to Folston, Adams is faster and quicker. When Adams gets into the open field, it is pretty much a guarantee he will score a touchdown. This fact is best illustrated in his 98-yard rushing touchdown against the Pittsburgh Panthers.

With Adam’s speed and big-play ability, it is a guarantee the Irish will do whatever they can to get the ball into his hands. He could start or be the backup and still play a lot. Another option is the Irish play Adams and Folston at the same time.

The Irish need a big-play threat, and Adams might be the best option they have out of the backfield. No matter what his role is in 2016, there is still a good chance Adams could reach 1,000 yards from scrimmage no problem.
