Texas Quarterback Shane Buechele and Tyrone Swoopes

Again, this is cheating because these are two players. However, Texas Longhorns’ head coach Charlie Strong cannot make up his mind at quarterback; much like Brian Kelly.

Last year, now senior Tyrone Swoopes entered Week 1 as the Longhorns’ starting quarterback. However, he was quickly replaced by Jerrod Heard after playing poorly in that 38-3 loss to Notre Dame.

This offseason, Heard switched from quarterback to receiver, which made Swoopes the top Longhorns’ quarterback again. However, freshman Shane Buechele has looked very good in preseason practices.

Buechele was a four-star prospect and the No. 4 dual-threat quarterback recruit according to ESPN. The Longhorns’ offense needs a dynamic dual-threat at quarterback. Buechele could be their guy.

Whoever the starting quarterback is, he can pose a threat to the Notre Dame defense. The Fighting Irish began the preseason practice with only five starters returning on defense. Unfortunately, that number decreased along with some of their depth due to a few player suspensions and dismissals.

The Longhorns have talent to capitalize on Notre Dame’s weaknesses. They just need a quarterback who can get the ball to their playmakers and limit the turnovers.

For this reason, it will be interesting to see who starts for the Longhorns. The Longhorns’ unknown starting quarterback could influence the overall outcome of Sunday night’s game.
