Indianapolis Colts: Vontae Davis Could Return Sunday
The Indianapolis Colts could get No. 1 cornerback Vontae Davis back from injury as early as this Sunday against the San Diego Chargers. Davis suffered an ankle injury during the Colts’ preseason.
The Indianapolis Colts’ defense could be getting some much-needed help this week, as cornerback Vontae Davis could return from injury against the Chargers on Sunday.
Davis suffered a ‘medial’ ankle sprain midway through the team’s preseason stretch, and was expected to miss a few weeks of action due to the significance of the injury.
For the sake of the Colts’ defense, they could certainly use Davis on the field. Their defense allowed 448 total yards against the Detroit Lions in week one, followed by giving up another 400 yards to the Denver Broncos the following week. Both games ended up as losses for the Colts.
Earlier in the week, head coach Chuck Pagano commented on Davis’s availability for Sunday, and how the veteran has looked in practice thus far.
"“He looks good,” Pagano said. “He looks good. Again, practice is practice, and game speed is game speed. So we’ve got to do a great job of rotating those guys (cornerbacks) in and keeping an eye on him. “He’s looked good. He did a great job. Trainers did a great job of getting (him) to this point. There’s going to be some rust to knock off, but I’m hopeful and encouraged that he’ll go play well.”"
Luck Questionable, Anderson Probable to Play Sunday
Quarterback Andrew Luck is listed as “questionable” for Sunday’s game against the Chargers due to a right shoulder injury.
Luck missed practice on Wednesday, and was limited in Thursday’s practice. It is believed to be nothing too serious, however, as he is still expected to play on Sunday against San Diego.
I think everybody is trying to read too much into this,” Pagano said. “We’re going to manage him the way we manage all our players and try to get him to Sunday as healthy as possible.”
After tearing his ACL midway through 2015, defensive linemen Henry Anderson could also return to the field for the first time this season, come Sunday. He had been a full participant in team practices all week — a great sign for a Colts defense that needs all of the help it can get.

With a current 0-2 record, the Colts hope that the additions on the defensive side of the ball can help aid the team in avoiding their first 0-3 start in five seasons.
The Colts take on the San Diego Chargers Sunday, Sep. 25 at 4:25 p.m. ET.
