Finally. The new season for college basketball is knocking on our doorstep and the hype is mounting. Questions will be asked this year; How will this player perform? How will this team do?

The one question question you should be asking, though is: Who makes the preseason All-Indiana team for this coming year? There will be obvious choices and there will be surprises. Let us take a look at who I am expecting to play at their highest level this season.

Before we do that, however, I would like to bring forth the criteria on which this list is chosen upon. This team is based on the following:

  1. Overall Talent
  2. Statistics
  3. Contribution to the team
  4. Strength of schedule

Without further ado, let us begin with the back court!

Guard: Carsen Edwards, Purdue

How could this guy not be on the team? The junior guard from Atascocita, Texas exploded onto the scene last season, averaging 18.5 points (led Purdue) and was the talk of the town on whether or not he would declare for the NBA draft or return to West Lafayette. Obviously, he chose the latter. Edwards was just recently named to the preseason AP All-American team and named to the Bob Cousy Award Watch list, which is awarded to the nation’s top point guard. Edwards is essentially a shoo-in for this team.

Guard: Temple Gibbs, Notre Dame

This spot was between Temple Gibbs of Notre Dame or another player that will be revealed later on. Gibbs is a truly talented player and is ready to lead the Irish this year, but the other deserving player posted better stats. I ended up choosing Gibbs due to the strength of schedule aspect. Gibbs will be the starting point guard for a very young Notre Dame team this season in an extremely tough ACC conference. Gibbs was also named to a watch list of his own – the Jerry West Award Watch List, which is awarded to the top shooting guard in the nation. The junior guard averaged just over 15 points per game last season and shot nearly 40% from beyond the ark.
