The Indianapolis Colts are Making the AFC Championship Game Next Year
By Luke Allen
With an ever-improving defense and a high-powered offense with a FINALLY good offensive line, the sky is the limit for the Indianapolis Colts in 2019.
What does every elite team in the league have? A solid offensive line, a franchise quarterback, a young and hungry defense, and a versatile offense; The Indianapolis Colts already have all these key tools to succeed.
With the highest cap room heading into a 2019 off season that features some serious free agent talent, the Colts should make at least a few key free agent signings to boost their roster. Players like Jadeveon Clowney, Demarcus Lawrence, Earl Thomas, Tyrann Mathieu are all unrestricted free agents that will be seeking big contracts. The Colts have the money for them. Just landing one of those players could turn the Colts into immediate contenders.

The offensive line is no longer a problem and I cannot stress how much that means to a football team. Having a good offensive line opens up the offensive playbook. The resurgence of the Indianapolis run game can be explained by the offensive line play, but we should not disregard the play of second year back Marlon Mack, who has been running at an insane pace:
If the offense stays healthy, Andrew Luck and the Colts will be back to their 2014 form, but better. Much better. Luck has all his top weapons, although the team should consider adding more pass-catching talent either through the draft or free agency, but never fear – Chris Ballard is our general manager and not Ryan Grigson.
If Ballard can continue to build a solid arsenal around Andrew Luck, there really are no limits to how good this Colts offense can be.
On the other side of the field is the defense, which has been a problem the past several years. The defense does not need to be elite. Make stops and create turnovers? Yes, and that is exactly what they are doing this season. Ballard and the Colts struck gold with Darius Leonard in this past draft. He is already one of the best linebackers in the league. Continue building a team around Leonard, and the Colts have themselves a defense!
I will say it right now. The Colts, led by mastermind Frank Reich, will contend with the Patriots and Chiefs as the best team in the AFC. They will knock one of them out of the playoffs, and meet the other in the AFC title game. Next year’s team will not lose more than four games, guaranteed.
