IU football looks to make it into postseason contention as they come into Saturday’s game 5-5, against Big Ten rival Michigan.
The Wolverines of Michigan have not lost since being defeated in week one by the undefeated Notre Dame Fighting Irish. They look to win out and secure their spot in the College Football Playoff tournament.
IU comes in to this game with absolutely nothing to lose. Michigan has everything to lose. IU needs to come into this game firing out of the gates. Michigan’s vaunted defense needs to be tested early and often. Michigan quarterback Shea Patterson needs to be pressured early and often.

How huge would it be for the Indiana football program to get this upset win on Saturday? IU has been afterthought for the last many decades. Upsetting Michigan and derailing their CFB Playoff hopes would shed a new light on IU football.
For that to happen, IU needs to play a perfect football game. Stopping Michigan’s heavy run attack would be step one. Karan Higdon and Chris Evans make for a two-headed monster in the Wolverine backfield. Forcing Michigan to be one-dimensional would be a huge win for the IU defense. Make a mediocre quarterback in Shea Patterson beat you.
Also, IU needs to attack on offense. Allowing Michigan to feat on the Hoosier offense in a conservative play call would be an easy loss. Tom Allen needs to call an aggressive game.
Ultimately, IU likely will not win. Will they keep it close? Maybe – but it will be a cold, rough environment that favors the Wolverines. But who remembers a team called Appalachian State?
