The Indianapolis Colts’ playoffs hopes are not dead. But they do need to win and get some help in the process.

The Indianapolis Colts will need some help from other teams if they hope to see a postseason game next month. Not counting the Colts (obviously), Indy fans should be rooting for a few teams they do not normally root for.

Here is your guide to watching NFL games on Sunday as an Indianapolis Colts fan:

Root for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Why should you root for a top seed AFC team? Because of who they are playing. Currently, the Baltimore Ravens have the sixth seed in the AFC Wildcard Playoff race. At 7-5, the Ravens have a one game lead over the Colts, as well as a better AFC record – which is the tiebreaker if they finish with the same record.

If Kansas City beats Baltimore, and the Colts beat the Houston Texans, then both the Colts and the Ravens would be 7-6. Though Baltimore would win the tie breaker with a better conference record, Colts fans should still be rooting for Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

Root for the San Francisco 49ers.

What the heck does an NFC team have to do with anything? Again, it’s who they are playing. The Denver Broncos are 6-6, just like the Colts. They virtually have zero chance of winning their division, so they will also be vying for the sixth Wildcard spot with Indianapolis.

Seeing how the Niners are 2-10, this may not go they way we want it to. As long as the Colts beat the Houston Texans, which is very difficult to do, a Broncos win would not be the end of the world for the Colts’ playoff hopes. A win for San Fran, however, would give the Colts an advantage over Denver.

Root for the New England Patriots.

I know how awful that sounds. I know, trust me. But like the other two, it is about who the Patriots are playing. The Miami Dolphins are another team competing for that last Wildcard spot in the playoffs and with a Colts loss and Dolphins win, the Dolphins would leapfrog the Colts in conference standings.

The Patriots have historically had a rough time winning down in Miami, Florida. But, Colts fans should root for a disgusting Tom Brady win to keep the Colts ahead of the Dolphins in the standings.

The Colts just need to win more than anything. Yeah, it would be nice to get some help from some other teams, but it is all for nothing if the Colts do not win. I consider every game from now on a playoff game for Indianapolis, because if they lose, they’re out.
