The Indiana Fever needed someone to step up in Caitlin Clark’s absence, and Aliyah Boston has answered that call with authority.

On Saturday night, in a dominant 79–52 win over the Chicago Sky, Boston delivered one of her most complete performances of the season, finishing with 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists, leading both teams in dimes while serving as the hub of Indiana’s offense.

It was the Fever’s second straight win and their most lopsided victory of the season, and once again, it was Boston’s playmaking that led the charge. With Clark sidelined for the fourth straight game due to a quad strain, Boston has taken on more of the facilitating load, and she's flourished.

Her decision-making, court vision, and ability to create out of the post have opened up new layers to the Fever’s offense. This one game wasn't a fluke, either.

Aliyah Boston’s passing growth has been a silver lining in Caitlin Clark’s absence

In four games without Clark, Boston is averaging over five assists per game, a massive leap from her season average of 3.8 and nearly double last year’s mark.

She's racking up assists by drawing attention inside, reading double teams, and finding open shooters, often without needing to put the ball on the floor.

What started as a silver lining in Clark’s absence is beginning to look like it could be a long-term revelation. The Fever are 2–2 without their star point guard, and thanks to Boston’s evolution as a facilitator, the arrow is pointing up in Indiana.

What makes this leap from Boston so significant is how seamlessly it could fit alongside Clark, not just as a temporary fix. With Boston drawing doubles and facilitating from the post, Clark could see more catch-and-shoot opportunities than ever before.

It’s a role she hasn’t been asked to play much, but one that could extend her efficiency and longevity across the season. The Clark-Boston pick-and-roll has already been one of the league’s most promising two-woman actions, but now there’s potential for more.

With Boston emerging as a true offensive engine, the Fever can run sets through either star — or, better yet, both in tandem. It not only eases the burden on Clark, but it also gives Indiana multiple ways to initiate offense, something many teams in the league can’t claim.

Her scoring, efficiency, and rebounding were already outstanding. Now, with her passing finally getting the spotlight it deserves, Aliyah Boston is evolving into the kind of player who can elevate everyone around her, including her superstar teammate.

And all it took was a few games without Clark for everyone to finally see it.
