Caitlin Clark’s injury derails the Fever big in latest WNBA power rankings

The Indiana Fever fell two spots in Bleacher Report's latest WNBA power rankings, from No. 4 to No. 6, and they haven't played their first game without Caitlin Clark. On Monday, the team announced the star guard will miss at least two weeks with a left quadriceps strain, meaning she'll be out for at least the next four games (but it could be more).
Indiana is one of three teams in the league with a 2-2 record, along with Las Vegas and Golden State. The Fever dominated the Sky in their first game of the season, lost to the Dream, beat the Dream two days later, and most recently lost by two points against the defending champions. They'll play the Mystics (twice), Sun, and Sky without Clark, and could be without her longer, depending on how recovery goes.
They could go 4-0 over the next two weeks, as the teams above are a combined 2-of-12 this season. Washington won two of its first five games, while Chicago and Connecticut are still seeking their first wins. Indiana doesn't want either team to snap its streak against them, causing them to fall in the standings again, but things will be a little wonky with Clark out.
Fever fall two spots in Bleacher Report's WNBA power rankings
Indiana had one of the best offseasons in the W, signing key veterans like DeWanna Bonner and Natasha Howard. Bonner said at training camp that she didn't know if she had played on a team before that had as much "firepower" as the Fever has on their roster. Their depth is especially important with Clark injured.
Sydney Colson will assume the starting point guard role. Kelsey Mitchell will also take on playmaker responsibilities with Clark out. Bonner, who is averaging 2.5 points per game on a combined 16 field goal attempts, could start to get into an offensive groove. You can't forget about Aliyah Boston, who is off to a hot start, averaging a career-high 18.5 points. Those four players will be key to the Fever stacking wins with Clark watching from the sideline.
Indiana is still working on finding its identity with its new-look roster. There is no way to spin Clark's injury as a positive, but it gives the Fever a chance to establish their identity outside of their star guard. Everyone knows what Clark offers.
Hopefully, by the time the next power rankings are released, the Fever will rise a spot or two, further proving the benefits of their offseason moves.
