Caitlin Clark made history (again) with All-Star captain nod

Indiana Fever star guard Caitlin Clark is headed to the All-Star game. She's going to be one of two captains involved in selecting players out of the pool of starters and reserves voted on by fans, media, and coaches to participate in All-Star weekend, with Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx acting as the other captain.
Clark, who has been dealing with some injuries to begin this season, is still the most popular player in the league by far - therefore, the fan vote truly pushed her over the edge to becoming a captain. She's likely not going to be the only Fever player headed...right back home to Gainbridge Fieldhouse to participate in the festivities, but she'll be the most noted as a top vote getter.
Clark made her own history by being named a captain for the first time in her career, but her being named one also made Fever history: there's never been an Indiana player that was named as the captain of an All-Star team, notching her yet another victory for the host team and once again placing her name in history for the team.
Clark named first All-Star captain in Fever's history
There have been an illustrious pool of players that have suited up for the Fever over its 25 year history. Through one championship in 2012 and several conference finals appearances throughout the late 2000s and early 2010s, players like Tamika Catchings, Tully Bevilaqua, Cappie Pondexter, and Candice Dupree graced the franchise.
So, it's almost mind boggling to imagine that Clark is the very first captain voted into the game. However, the format of having two captains who select players to their respective teams was only adopted in 2018. It becomes more understandable that Clark is the first in Indiana's history to be picked as a captain with that context.

Clark should still get some major props for this feat. While she's been hurt with a quad and now groin injury, she's had some electric performances this season that have kept her on the map. Despite turnover troubles and inefficiency from three point range this year, Indiana still relies on her pretty heavily for offensive output.
Hopefully, she'll see some familiar faces in the pool available to her when choosing her team. Players like Aliyah Boston, Lexie Hull, and Kelsey Mitchell could all get a nod to appear for their home fans in a few weeks.
