Caitlin Clark suffered yet another injury scare during Tuesday night's game against the Sun and had to sit out the last minute of the match. She was filmed in tears, a startling and worrying sight for fans, who were't sure if she was crying out of frustration, pain, or both. Clark's brother Colin was also understandably upset, and nearly immediately took to X to put the blame for the moment on the elephant in the room: the refs.
"Make no mistake," he wrote. "This is on the reffing." Colin later deleted the tweet, but not before at least 100,000 people saw it (and screenshots live on in infamy).

Last night's game was officiated in part by Michael Price, the ref Clark was filmed having an explosive exchange with. While many have questioned why Clark didn't receive a technical foul following the back and forth, others have pointed to video that appears to show Price saying something off-putting to Clark first, prompting her fiery return.

Clark also appeared to make a phone gesture to her ear, an apparent indication that she plans to make a phone call in relation to the situation with Price.
Reffing has been an issue in the WNBA all season
The match between the Fever and Sun is hardly the first time officiating has caused problems this season, and the topic has often escalated outside of the games on the floor. In June Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird discussed reffing on their "A Touch More" podcast, with Rapinoe noting that she believes the Fever's repeated complaints about officials aren't helping the team.
"I feel like constantly having that narrative doesn't do your team or you really any good. Obviously, you have to go to bat for your team and whatever, but I'm just kind of like, it's too much. I think it's too much, constantly asking for fouls all the time, it's just annoying and I feel like you get less fouls," she explained.
Head coach Stephanie White was fined in late May after she made comments about reffing following the Fever's game against the Liberty. "I think it’s pretty egregious what’s been happening to us these last few games," she said. "The disrespect right now for our team has been pretty unbelievable. It’s disappointing that it doesn’t go both ways, but we can’t allow that to consume us."
But the Fever aren't the only team raising the alarm — in June Kelsey Plum lit into refs following the Sparks' game against the Valkyries, and Becky Hammon has also had plenty to say about the dynamic in the WNBA right now.
