Caitlin Clark’s media-fueled rivalry officially put on ice

After the Indiana Fever's win in the first game against the Chicago Sky, Indiana fans have been long awaiting part two of their matchups this season. While much of that is due to the media-stoked rivalry of Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, the next chapter will have to wait.
No one could've expected that one of the biggest names involved in the rematch, Caitlin Clark, would be out due to injury. Clark, who suffered a quad strain against the New York Liberty back on May 24, has been out for a week while still rehabbing from the injury. In speaking with reporters on Thursday ahead of the game, she implied that she wouldn't be good to go by this weekend.
That's a big blow to the fans that have been likely waiting for this rematch for a while, and especially a blow as Chicago has slowly but surely begun to figure things out on offense after a very slow start to the 2025 season.
Without Clark, Indiana will have to mind their Ps and Qs to handily defeat the Sky and win another Commissioner's Cup game.
Indiana can go 2-0 in Commissioner's Cup play with win over Chicago
Indiana will be entering the game having played just one Cup game, which they won, while Chicago is coming in with this contest being their first of Commissioner's Cup action. So, this game has more weight to it beyond the rivalry storylines sure to be permeating through the contest.
Aliyah Boston will be playing in this game, and she's the player who was dealt a technical foul in the last matchup between the two teams. She is likely to play with a bit of a chip on her shoulder from that game, and because she's been in constant foul trouble this season. The potential DPOY candidate is seeing her case tarnished just a bit with how often she's racking up fouls in-game.

The Fever are looking to stabilize themselves amidst Clark's absence, and as they're still getting used to a new backup point guard running the floor for them - Aari McDonald.
While Sydney Colson will likely keep backing Clark up and starting in her place, McDonald provided promising enough minutes against the Washington Mystics in her Fever debut to give fans confidence in her future performance against Chicago.
